ABOUT

Thyrza is a director and theatremaker based in London. She trained on the MFA Theatre Directing course at Birkbeck and as Resident Assistant Director at Curve Theatre, Leicester and has worked with companies such as the Royal Shakespeare Company and Regent's Park Open Air Theatre.

Her work has spanned from classics and large-scale musicals, to new writing and devised work. What ties the work together for her is the focus on the audience relationship, on making work that is accessible and exciting while also provoking conversation and debate. Thyrza believes that theatre serves to mirror and challenge society, to wake us up to what's around us and make us question our world.

One of her main focuses is on reclaiming and reimagining classics, making them accessible for new audiences and believes in the importance of 'looking back to move forward'. Thyrza makes work with a political/social drive, looking at the extremes of human nature and interrogating our current society. The aim is always to create conversation and connection, to awaken and entertain.

Thyrza's credits include La Cage Aux Folles, Box of Delights, The Tempest, us., Billy Elliot The Musical, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and The Dan Daw Show.

Thyrza also previously trained on Soho Theatre Writer's Lab and at Queen Mary University of London.
